Meet Our Team Members:

Ben Sawyer joined WECI in 2018. Since then, Ben has rapidly established himself as competent manager of environmental issues, including mold, asbestos, pcb, and methamphetamine testing, along with the designing of comprehensive abatement plans.

Native of Chesapeake VA, Ben graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Shenandoah University in 2011, and M. A. in Geography with a focus on remote sensing from West Virginia University in 2013. He enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and spending time with family.

Andrew Cook joined WECI in 2016.  Since then, Andrew has rapidly established himself as competent manager of environmental issues, including mold, asbestos, pcb, and methamphetamine testing, along with the designing of comprehensive abatement plans.

Andrew graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development. When not at WECI Andrew enjoys fishing and kayaking.

 

Ryan Rose has been with WECI since 2009, starting as an environmental technician and rising through the company to become the Vice President in 2016. Ryan is an environmental professional licensed in numerous environmental fields for multiple states, and has overseen numerous large scale industrial cleanup and demolition activities involving  various regulated materials.  In addition, Ryan works closely with commercial business concerns, real estate professionals and property management groups to not only resolve their environmental issues but to actively coordinate programs and implement measures to prevent environmental or regulatory problems before they occur.

Ryan graduated from James Madison University in 2008 with a B.S. in Geographic Science concentrating in Environmental Studies. A Clarke County native, Ryan, his wife and their 2 dogs love the outdoors.  You can often find them hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail or spending time at UVA’s Blandy Experimental Farm.

With the retirement of his father Bruce Sigurdson in 2015, James Sigurdson assumed management of the firm, continuing its legacy of providing a large scale of professional environmental services through a small company easily able to provide clients with the personal attention their issues may require.  Prior to ownership, James served as the Vice President of WECI from 2005 to 2015, project manager from 2001 to 2015, and a part time environmental technician from 1995 to 1997.

James is an EPA accredited environmental professional licensed in numerous environmental fields for multiple states. He is a laboratory director and a member of various professional organizations, such as ASTM (American society for Testing Materials), the ACGIG (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists), the AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association), Top of VA Builders Association, National Association of Home Builders, Home Builders Association of VA, and the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber of Commerce.

James maintains excellent professional relations with various state and federal regulatory agencies and prides himself on finding solutions to environmental issues that often require deep research into regulations and discussions with regulators involving permissible activities under the law.

James is a Winchester area local, graduated from James Wood High School, served on active duty in in the US Army 35th Signal Brigade (airborne) and 82nd airborne Signal Battalion. He returned back home to receive his MBA from Shenandoah University in 2005.

When not at WECI James is an avid kayaker and enjoys hiking and various outdoor adventures with his wife and 2 kids.

The founder of WECI in 1991 and its former owner, Bruce has been in the Environmental field for over 30 years, and has extensive knowledge in Phase I and II environmental site assessment, as well underground and aboveground storage tank regulations and spill cleanups.  While retired from full time consulting in 2015, Bruce remains on WECI’s staff part time lending his many years of experience to other employees and select clients he has worked with over the years.

Bruce is recognized as an expert environmental witness in Federal courts for environmental site assessments.

Previous military experience in the US Army from 1970-1973 including nuclear training, a top secret clearance, legal assistant, and ending his tour of duty at the Pentagon as an aide to Lt. General John G. Wright, Comptroller of the Army.  When not at work Bruce’s leisure activities include spending time with his numerous grandchildren, working on his farm, and fishing.

 

Olga Sigurdson joined WECI in 2015. She provides accounting and office support to the company and employees.

Olga graduated from Shenandoah University in 2009 with MBA concentrating in Accounting. She received CPA license in 2012, and has extensive knowledge in corporate tax and accounting.

When not at WECI Olga enjoys various outdoor adventures with her husband and 2 kids. She loves traveling, reading, scrapbooking and cooking.
